CHAIN Partnered with Lands Department to Showcase at the Launch of OCGIO's Smart LAB

With the launch of the Smart Government Innovation Lab (Smart LAB) on 30 May 2019, Hong Kong marked a major step forward in smart government evolution. Being an active participant in it, CHAIN Technology Development partnered with the Lands Department to showcase its Smart City solutions to the public at the opening ceremony of the Smart LAB.

CHAIN used its flagship product, 4D Immersive CAVE, powered by its proprietary Hybrid Reality Platform (HRP), to demonstrate 3D digital maps provided by the Lands Department and the Buildings Department, assisting the design of construction sites, construction project monitoring and urban development planning.

Users simply walk into the BIM CAVE system and would feel like flying over the Yuen Long district with detailed models of buildings and roads beneath their feets. Tags of the landmarks shown in the virtual tour help users to get a better understanding of the environmental situation. The CAVE comes with a kiosk as a controller to switch to other scenarios, such as the interactive 3D model of Smart LAB’s indoor environment, or the fire-extinguishing training game for construction workers with real fire extinguisher as a tool.

Jackie Wong, Head of Business Development at CHAIN, explained the technologies behind the flagship product, “CHAIN’s CAVE provides a very unique experience in which users can immerse in a 3D virtual environment without wearing VR glasses. Showing 3D digital maps in this spectacular way is a pioneering move, but this is just one of the many application scenarios achieved by our CAVE.”

The Smart LAB located in Cyberport is managed and operated by the Office of the Government Chief Information Officer (OGCIO). It serves as a platform for encouraging innovative solutions and product suggestions from the IT sector to address public service delivery and operational needs.

CHAIN showcased its innovative smart city solutions at the opening ceremony of the Smart LAB.

Tags of the landmarks with supplementary information are shown in the virtual 3D maps generated by CHAIN's Hybrid Reality Platform (HRP).

Guests from different government departments watched the 3D digital maps demonstration in the 4D Immersive CAVE.
